Highly recommended by a friend, my husband and I booked our stay at Casa San Agustin when we traveled to Cartagena last July, and we could not have enjoyed it more! From the moment we arrived, the staff warmly greeted us by name with welcome drinks in hand. This friendly greeting happened each and every time we left and returned to the hotel.
Located in the heart of the old town Cartagena, the boutique hotel remains true to authentic Colombian style and architecture with 20 guestrooms and 11 suites. The wood beams on the ceiling and the colorful and decorative tile in the bathroom were my personal favorite style elements in our room.
Each morning we had a complimentary breakfast in their highly rated restaurant, Alma. Breakfast consisted of a buffet or menu order. The wait staff was more than willing to customize your order. I asked for avocado slices on my omelet the first morning of our stay and every morning after, it was added to my order without request.
The most unique feature of the hotel is the pool located in the center of the hotel. The L shaped pool centered in the courtyard features an arch of one of the original walls of the historic acueduct which now makes up one of the three buildings of the hotel. A pool bar is located on the far side of the pool from the entrance, along with multiple seating areas and pool lounge chairs.
As I previously mentioned, breakfast is included in your stay as well as the minibar in your room. The hotel also has bikes for the use of hotels guests. We spent our last full day in Cartagena biking around the city. The Library also has a coffee bar available to guests and there are several outdoor terraces to enjoy your cup of joe while taking in the beautiful historic skyline of Cartagena.
Overall, I give Casa San Agustin five stars, one of my most favorite hotels.
